Florence Campus Donates 50 Wigs to Local Hospital

Kenneth Shuler Schools of Cosmetology’s Florence campus is pleased to announce that it donated 50 wigs to McLeod Regional Medical Center’s ‘Color Me Pink Boutique’ on Tuesday, May 15th. The donation ceremony was held at the ‘Color Me Pink Boutique,’ which is located in the McLeod Resource Center, and was attended by Kenneth Shuler staff and students, as well as numerous McLeod officials.

The wigs were purchased thanks to a generous donation by Mr. Kenneth Shuler, President and CEO of the cosmetology school chain, and the fundraising efforts of the student body at the Kenneth Shuler--Florence campus. Students paid money to be able to wear jeans to school; pink hair extensions were sold in the school’s student salon (to represent Breast Cancer Awareness); and clients donated money to the cause, just to name a few of the fundraising events.

The 50 wigs are a variety of different colors and women’s styles. However, if the wig recipients would like to alter the hairpieces to better suit their own personal tastes, they can make an appointment at Kenneth Shuler’s Florence campus (located at 2443 West Lucas Street) and our trained staff members will cut and style the wigs for FREE!

Without a doubt, this donation will benefit cancer patients throughout the Pee Dee who are struggling with the outward effects of their treatments. “Cancer is a disease that has likely touched every single family in the Pee Dee region—including some members of the Kenneth Shuler family. So, we’re very excited to be able to help these women feel good about themselves and their outward appearance while they’re undergoing treatment. After all, when you feel good about how you look, you feel better on the inside, too,” said Mackenzie Taylor, the Public Relations Specialist for Kenneth Shuler Schools of Cosmetology.

Officials at McLeod are equally as excited about receiving the wigs. "Since we opened the McLeod ‘Color Me Pink Boutique’ in 2006, it has been very well received by patients in our region coping with cancer," said Marilyn Godbold, Director of McLeod Volunteer Services. "We also operate solely on donations and the support of our boutique volunteers, so this donation by the Kenneth Shuler Schools of Cosmetology means a great deal to our efforts."

Staff Bring Home 10 Trophies from ACSP Competition

Kenneth Shuler's Rock Hill campus was one of 18 local businesses and agencies that donated its time and talents to the Tender Hearts Job Fair and Community Event on Thursday, April 26.

The event was aimed at helping the homeless and less fortunate members of the community get back to work by offering them resume assistance, interview training, and help with their appearance. 15 students and staff members from Kenneth Shuler gave free haircuts to the individuals who participated in the hopes that they would go to their next job interview feeling good about themselves!

As always, we're so proud of our schools for reaching out and helping those in need! What a great way to give back!

Staff Bring Home 10 Trophies from ACSP CompetitionCongratulations to all of the students and staff members who won trophies at the ACSP Competition on Saturday, April 21st! A total of 10 trophies were brought home by Kenneth Shuler representatives!

This year's event was held in Myrtle Beach at the Ocean Dunes Resort.

Way to go KS! We are proud of EVERYONE who participated!

Martin Parsons Visits ACE AcademyWe are so proud that world-famous long-hair stylist Martin Parsons visited Kenneth Shuler's very own ACE Academy! Martin came on April 10th and demonstrated his unique knotting, folding and lacing up-do techniques for around 90 Kenneth Shuler employees, students, and guests (including some local Cost Cutters staff members).

In addition, Martin gave attendees the opportunity to have one-on-one pictures taken with him AND purchase his book, which he also autographed.

What a wonderful advanced training opportunity for everyone involved! Be sure to check out all of our pictures on the Kenneth Shuler Facebook page!

Wine, Dine and DesignOn Monday, March 26th, high-fashion hit South Carolina's capital city when "Wine, Dine & Design" made its debut at the Columbia Metropolitan Convention Center. Kenneth Shuler Schools of Cosmetology was the presenting sponsor of the event, which featured fashion designers from across the Palmetto state and even boasted Hollywood's very own "Cojo" as the celebrity guest. Additional celebrities included Mrs. United States 2008 Gariane Gunter, Mrs. New York 2012 Leah Bartos, Mrs. South Carolina 2012 Danyele Gardner, former Miss Winston Cup Renee Perks, two-time Miss Hawaiian Tropic Jennifer Trinker, and CN2 Anchor Lucas McFadden.

The event drew nearly 400 people and created quite a buzz in Columbia and surrounding areas. Kenneth Shuler's very own staff members styled the hair of all of the models, representatives from BeautiControl provided make-up services, and countless other local businesses worked to provide (free-of-charge) such necessities as audio, visual, and lighting services, decorations, design visions, and runway management.

The show was a huge success and KS Schools is thrilled to be able to share pictures from the event with you! Just visit our Facebook page (listed under the name Kenneth Shuler Schools of Cosmetology) and click on the album titled "Wine, Dine & Design."

Kenneth Shuler Schools of Cosmetology hosted a Staff Training and Recognition Day on Monday, March 5th at The Medallion Center in Columbia.

Staff members from all seven of KS's campuses came together to enjoy some Dale Carnegie training, delicious food, and an awards ceremony.

Congratulations to all of our staff members for their successes over the past year AND for working so hard to make our great company the best that it can be!

A special "congrats" goes out to Hollie-Jo Dostie for winning this year's "Director of the Year" award and Kathy Emery for winning this year's "Overall Teacher of the Year" award!  Both individuals are based out of KS's Rock Hill campus.

Thank you staff members for all that you do!  We look forward to another amazing year!

Kenneth Shuler's seven campuses worked to tackle hunger again this year by participating in the Souper Bowl of Caring!  The Souper Bowl of Caring is a nationwide event that works to fight and raise awareness about hunger and poverty.  It's held every year around the time of the Super Bowl, which played out on February 5th between the New England Patriots and New York Giants.

Each campus hosted a variety of events during the month of January such as bake sales, jeans days, and soup days to try to raise money for a food-related, charitable organization within their community.  Many of the campuses also hosted food drives, so in addition to monetary contributions, food donations were made to charities as well!

Altogether, more than $1,700 was raised and countless canned goods were brought in during this fundraiser, so a HUGE thank you goes out to everyone who helped support this cause!

KS School of Cosmetology won the title of "Best Cosmetology School" in Lexington Life Magazine's recent "Best of Lexington" contest! We're so honored to have received this award! A HUGE thank you goes out to everyone who voted and supported us! What a great way to start off 2012!

Lexington Life Best of 2012

Kenneth Shuler School of Cosmetology is philanthropic all year long, but during the holiday season, our giving spirit shines even brighter!

During the month of December, all of our campuses participated in an array of community-service activities that ranged from adopting families to toy and clothing drives.

We are so proud of the community service work that our staff and students do year-round.  We also thank the public for their endless support.

Happy Holidays!

Congratulations to Samantha Emrick, a graduate from Kenneth Shuler School of Cosmetology's Garners Ferry Road campus, for being chosen as a finalist for Matrix's "Spread the Love" 2012 campaign!

Samantha headed to New York City in December for the finalist auditions.  Before she left, though, Kenneth Shuler Schools presented her with a complimentary personal styling session with local stylist Brian Maynor.  Brian and Samantha spent a day shopping at the Village at Sandhill, all to ensure that Sam was fashion-ready for her big trip to NYC!  (Visit Kenneth Shuler on Facebook to see the pictures from that fun-filled day!)

We're so proud of you Samantha for making it that far!  Congrats on your accomplishments!

Our Rock Hill campus was recently chosen by Matrix to be the ONLY cosmetology school in South Carolina to represent the "Spread the Love" campaign in 2012.  There is only one school chosen for each state, so this is quite an accomplishment!  The school will be given a laptop so that students and staff can blog their experiences, there will be visits at the school by the "Spread the Love" winners, and there will be extra opportunities for students to win advanced education!  How cool is all of this?!

Congratulations to all of the students who participated in the bi-annual SCACS Competition on Monday, October 17th!  The event, which lasted all day, was held at the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel in Columbia.  Students from all seven of Kenneth Shuler's campuses competed against other cosmetology students from across the state and when it was all said and done, they took home 25 of the 36 trophies!

Kenneth Shuler's seven campuses are going PINK during the month of October in celebration of Breast Cancer Awareness Month!

Each of the schools is organizing and participating in a wide array of events and activities, so stop by one of our campuses to get involved!  The monies raised at each school will be donated to a breast cancer-related organization within each of the communities.

You can also stop by one of our schools to nominate a breast cancer survivor or current patient for a makeover!

One day we hope there will be a cure.  In the meantime, please support our efforts as we raise money for a good cause!

Congratulations to all of the students and staff who participated in the first-ever BOSS (Best of Shuler Schools) Competition on Wednesday, September 21st!

It was a very memorable day that began with students and staff from all seven campuses coming together at the St. Andrews Road school to compete in various categories.  The competition lasted until around 6 PM and then, three Hummer limousines showed up at the school to whisk all of the participants to The Capital City Club, which is a very exclusive restaurant that overlooks downtown Columbia, SC.  All of the winners were announced there during a ceremony that followed dinner.

Overall Winner of BOSS (Best of Shuler Schools) -- Rock Hill

Kenneth Shuler's Spartanburg campus was proud to partner with WSPA News Channel 7 to host a "Locks of Love" event on Tuesday, August 23!  It happened from noon until 6:30 at the Spartanburg school, which is located at 1515 John B. White Sr. Blvd.

The event was broadcast live by local celebrity Jack Roper on News Channel 7's noon, 5 PM, 5:30 PM, and 6:00 PM shows.  Around 25 people came out to the campus and donated their hair, which had to be at least 6 inches long.  All of the hair is being shipped to "Locks of Love" and will be used to make hairpieces for children who are suffering from medical-related hair loss.  All of the people who donated their hair received a complimentary cut, style, and goodie bag for their donation.

A special thanks goes out to all of the people who made this event such a success!

bc-awareness-1bKenneth Shuler’s Rock Hill campus enjoyed some pretty exciting work this month as stylists, actors, and actresses for the major motion picture “The Hunger Games” visited the school for beauty preps.

Joico stylists for the movie cut and colored cast member’s hair at the school, while Kenneth Shuler students and staff assisted them.

Kenneth Shuler Schools of Cosmetology was very excited about this amazing opportunity because it gave students a first-hand glimpse of all of the behind-the-scenes work that goes on in the movie industry.

A few lucky students showed such great promise that they were invited by Joico stylists to intern on the actual set of the movie!  What an amazing opportunity! Filming is being shot in the Charlotte and Shelby, North Carolina area.

We’ll be sure to post pictures so be on the lookout for them on our Kenneth Shuler Facebook page!  The film's expected release date is March 2012.

Kenneth Shuler School of Cosmetology's North Augusta campus held its annual "Back to School" event on Monday, August 1st and we're proud to say that it was another huge success!

The event, which was held at the North Augusta campus (located at 736 East Martintown Road), took place from 9 AM until 12 PM.  Students and staff from Kenneth Shuler, as well as Augusta Technical College's barbering students, gave away a variety of haircuts and styles for FREE to about 60 local school-aged children.  (To put this in a monetary perspective, more than $600 worth of haircuts and styles were performed for free!)  In addition, the school raffled off 27 bookbags and passed out around 60 goodie bags filled with pencils, paper, crayons, and glue.  Children who participated in the event also were able to enjoy free ice cream and snacks courtesy of the Kenneth Shuler School of Cosmetology staff and student body.

This event is evidence of the many ways that Kenneth Shuler Schools of Cosmetology gives back to the communities that we service.  A special thanks goes out to everyone involved!

Kenneth Shuler School of Cosmetology's 7th annual 'Cuts for Cancer' event has come and gone and thanks to the generous outpouring of support from the KS family and local community members, it was another successful year!

Students and staff from the St. Andrews Road and Garners Ferry Road campuses rallied together during the week of May 15-20 to offer a variety of $5 beauty services to the public including haircuts, mini manicures, mini pedicures, eyebrow waxings, lip waxings, chin waxings, beard trims, and mustache trims.  In addition, the schools sponsored basket raffles, bake sales, jeans days for students, and hot dog sales in an effort to raise fundraising levels!

When all of the monies were tallied together (including Mr. Kenneth Shuler’s gracious personal donation) a grand total of $3,037.04 had been raised for Children’s Chance. Children's Chance is a Columbia-based, non-profit organization that helps children with cancer and their families with non-medical needs such as financial assistance, counseling, and school supplies.

This money was presented to Children’s Chance officials on Wednesday, June 15th at Kenneth Shuler’s St. Andrews Road campus in Columbia.

A special thanks goes out to everyone who participated in this event--including KS staff, students, and the general public.  This year’s event brings the total amount of money donated to Children’s Chance over the past seven years by Kenneth Shuler School of Cosmetology to nearly $18,500.

Kenneth Shuler staff and students have WOWED us over the past couple of weeks with their Student Showcase events...and we have TONS of pictures to prove it!  Be sure to check them out on the Kenneth Shuler Facebook page!
