Mr. Kenneth Shuler and the Kenneth Shuler Corporate Team is visiting Washington, D.C. and on Wednesday, March 6, 2019, during their visit, our team will be sitting down to meet with our local state representatives to discuss the steadfast growth in our industry and challenges facing our current and future students.
Let’s face it when you hear the words “beauty industry,” what comes to mind? Is it images of makeup and hair products? While that may be true for some, thoughts of a rewarding, successful, and long-lasting career likely pop into the thoughts of individuals who are about to step into the world of beauty themselves.
Why?
Because the beauty industry is a business that is developing at a rapid pace with the national job growth percentage being 7%!
What does that mean?
That means the beauty industry is expected to see the continued job and revenue growth in many areas over the next several years.
To those of you who are wondering– yes, the beauty industry includes more than just hair salons and makeup. In fact, did you know that deodorant, toothpaste, perfumes, shower and shaving products, nail polish, and skin care products are just a few of the things sold in the beauty industry?
With such a wide array of job opportunities and product brands in the beauty industry, jobs are popping up everywhere for people who are looking for steady work, a flexible work schedule and self-employment opportunities.
So what about the growth in the beauty industry?
In 2016, the number of jobs in the beauty industry for barbers, hair stylists, and cosmetologists was 673,700. This means, that the outlook for employment change from 2016-2026 is expected to have additional 87,600 jobs become available. That’s a 13% change in the job outlook and is faster than the average growth expectancy (this came from BLS and is the only stat I have been able to find for averages).
Skincare specialists, according to The Bureau of Labor Statistics reported that in 2016, the number of jobs for skincare specialists was 61,300 and by 2026, the employment growth is projected to grow nearly 14%, which is faster than the average for all occupations.
Why is there such an increase?
Simply because people and population growth will lead to a greater demand for haircare/skincare services and products.
Why is this important you may ask?
Because of the ever-growing and constant changes and challenges in our industry, we want to ensure our local representatives and officials in D.C. see the potential and current state of our industry.
